Having rear lane access for the garage, it was quite refreshing to have a home design that didn’t have the front elevation dominated by a garage door. However, this site has three sides of the home facing the street, which made designing for privacy a little tricky! Fortunately, the Northern side of the block, which offered the best passive solar orientation for comfortable living, both indoors and outdoors, also offered the best privacy for the owners. The result is a spectacular courtyard area and alfresco dining seamlessly blending the indoors and outdoors smoothly and comfortably.
Inside this home, varied floor levels were used to great effect to define the living zones in an open plan space. This allowed for the kitchen bench to extend into the dining room, which had a floor level 150mm higher than the kitchen floor, just add your favourite dining chairs and enjoy the connection when entertaining or sharing a family meal.
The unassuming front entry to the home hides a pleasant surprise as you enter and view the modern opulence of the interior. The inspirational combination of form and function made this home a beautiful place for our clients to live and a pleasure to design and create.
